Tentsile: Outdoor Product Photography + Short-Form Video

How a cold pitch turned into launch content that generated 33.8K views and measurable audience action

The Opportunity

I cold pitched Tentsile about creating commercial photography and short-form video for the brand. During the conversation, their Social Media Manager introduced me to a new product that had recently built momentum through a successful Kickstarter campaign.

We developed the project around creating photography and a short-form video for socials that would support the product’s general sale and show it in the outdoor environment it was designed for.

This was a soft, organic-only launch on social media channels following the Kickstarter campaign, rather than the primary Kickstarter launch itself.

The Work

I created a gallery of product, lifestyle, and environmental photographs for Tentsile to select five photos from, along with a short-form video designed to support the launch.

Short-Form Video

I created a reel for Tentsile’s organic social channels, including one round of revisions.

The video was also cross-posted to Facebook.

The Results

Tentsile shared its Instagram Insights on August 20th, at that time the video had generated 33,767 combined views across Instagram and Facebook from 8,784 viewers, with an average watch time of 5 seconds.

It also generated measurable audience actions:

The reel generated 663 combined likes and reactions, including 297 on Instagram and 366 on Facebook.

Tentsile’s Instagram Insights also showed:

3.5% like rate
Labeled higher than the account’s typical reel performance.

0.4% save rate
Labeled higher than the account’s typical reel performance.

59.2% skip rate
Labeled lower than the account’s typical reel performance. A lower skip rate means people stayed with it longer, so below their typical reel is the good direction.

These comparisons are against Tentsile’s own typical reel performance. Instagram does not provide the underlying benchmark numbers, so I have not applied an industry or platform-wide comparison.

Instagram Insights provided by Tentsile following publication on August 20, 2026. Some metrics shown are combined Instagram and Facebook results, while others are Instagram-specific.

The video has continued accumulating public reach since the original reporting period.

Client Feedback

“It performed well and we can see it got 26 people to click through, which is great. The like rate is above average too.” - Social Media Manager, Tentsile.

Tentsile noted that this was a softer general-sale launch following the product’s earlier Kickstarter campaign, where the brand had invested more heavily in marketing and saw its primary interest and purchases. Since the short-form video was used across Tentsile’s organic social channels, the team was not able to provide sales attribution from the launch.

The team also noted that the content resonated with its audience and expected to continue using the assets.

What This Project Demonstrates

The value of commercial content isn’t simply producing attractive images. It’s creating assets that help a business communicate what its product is, how it fits into the customer’s experience, and why someone should care.
